Huemul Is the Mapuche Name.
Shoam is the Tehuelche Name.
Patagonian Deer the english name.
An ancient Tehuelche legend says that the huemules come from the moon. That in love with the Earth, with its twilight amaranth and arterial rivers, snowy peaks, fiery volcanoes, green valleys and proud forests, they approached, every night, the contours of the moon to look at that blue land that bewitched them. And so it happened all the ceremonies, especially those of full moon.

One day they got so close to the lunar edge that they ended up falling to Earth. This legend - not written - is drawn on the rock, on a gigantic eaves, in a place in Patagonia. It is a shamanic place. An old gaucho, between mate and mate, told me that the huemules used their antlers as wings to navigate the stars. That is why they take care of them and move
them every year. live in the andean patagonic forests of argentina and chile. is one of the species in danger of extinction.
